 FAQs

  • At Well Harbor, we are committed to providing high-quality, personalized therapy services. To maintain the highest standards of care and to ensure that each client receives the attention and support they deserve, we do not accept insurance for our therapy sessions. Here’s why and how it impacts you:

Why We Do Not Accept Insurance

    1. Avoiding Pathologization: Insurance companies often require specific diagnostic codes and labels to approve and cover therapy services. This process can inadvertently lead to a focus on pathology and illness rather than on your strengths, goals, and personal growth. Additionally, many who experience reproductive grief and trauma do not meet diagnostic criteria for a specific mental health diagnosis. By not working with insurance, we can emphasize your resilience and focus on what you want to achieve in therapy, rather than fitting into predefined diagnostic categories.

    2. Tailoring Support to You: Therapy is most effective when it is personalized and collaborative. Insurance companies sometimes impose treatment limitations based on standardized criteria, which can restrict the flexibility and creativity of our therapeutic approach. Without these constraints, we can tailor our support specifically to your needs and work together to explore solutions that are most relevant to your needs.

    3. Maintaining Empowerment and Agency: Our goal is to empower you throughout your therapeutic journey. When insurance is involved, the need for diagnostic labels and treatment approvals can shift the focus away from your personal narrative and towards a clinical classification. By not accepting insurance, we maintain a focus on your individual story, strengths, and goals, promoting a more empowering and client-centered approach.

    4. Confidentiality: We respect your privacy and confidentiality. By not involving insurance companies, we avoid having to share your personal information with third parties. This ensures that your sessions remain private and entirely focused on your well-being.

  • A consultation call provides the opportunity for you and the therapist to gather relevant information which will help you both discern if Well Harbor Therapy is a good fit for you.

Here are four things you can expect:

    1. The Therapist will ask about your reason for seeking care, what type of care you are interested in, your schedule availability, and your therapy preferences.

    2. The therapist will provide space for you to ask questions about the therapist’s experience and training, or any other information that will help you discern if the therapist is a fit.

    3. If you and the therapist determine that the services at Well Harbor are not the best fit for your needs, your schedule or your preferences, then the therapist will send you therapist referrals for providers who may better fit your needs.

    4. If you and the therapist determine that the services offered at Well Harbor are a good fit, the therapist will invite you to schedule your first appointment when you feel ready.

  • Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which a small group of people meet weekly to engage in personal growth and healing within the context of a community.  Group therapy is made up of up imperfect people- which means that this is a space to learn AND practice the skills you are working on.

All of Well Harbor's therapy groups are facilitated by licensed therapist, Ahlia Kim. Ahlia is a licensed Marriage and Family therapist. This means that Ahlia completed a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family therapy, spent a total of 4 years under supervision by other licensed therapists, and completed 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience. This experience equips Ahlia to be able to offer high-quality and evidence-based care for her clients.

Support groups are often led by coaches or community members and primarily focus on providing peer support for those with a shared experience. Support groups can be led by individuals with varying levels of experience and training, and often do not require a license or specific training to practice.

  • Group therapy may be a good fit for you if….

    • You have a history of participating in individual, couple or family therapy

    • You are looking for a community of people who have lived experience with the infertility journey

    • You are willing to give AND receive support and care in group setting

    • You are motivated to pursue personal growth, even when it puts you outside your comfort zone

    • You are willing to learning about and adhere to our community standards:

      • Leave unsolicited advice and toxic positivity at the door

      • Avoid microaggressions & microinvalidations

      • Utilize “I” statements (recognizing that each of our journeys are unique)

      • Avoid comparisons (all infertility journeys are difficult, no comparison needed)

      • Communicate your preferences to help foster a healthy group

Group therapy may not be a good fit for you if…

    • You are diagnosed with an active mental health concern (such as Depression, OCD, Bipolar etc) AND are not currently receiving individualized care. In this case, group therapy will not be a safe or effective resource for you

    • Your individual therapy provider does not recommend group therapy for you

    • You’ve never received any form of therapy (often individual therapy is a more approachable way to begin your therapy journey)

    • You do not feel ready to hold space for other’s experiences in a space where people will have different backgrounds, religions, or values than you do

  • Then you are not alone! Reproductive trauma can be the tipping point for many people to seek professional help. Having a stressful career, difficulty communicating in your relationships, or living with long-term anxiety can all feel like problems you’ve navigated successfully for years - that is, until reproductive trauma is added to the mix. This is why Ahlia Kim takes a wholistic approach to therapy. You are invited to bring your whole story and your whole self to therapy.
